Tascosa High marks anniversary"The day was August 28, 1958, and the cry, 'Go West, young man!' had just been challenged. The place was the new settlement of Tascosa High School in the western part of the 'land' known as Amarillo, Texas. Very few people realized the important chapter of history that was to be begun on that day." Those words were written in 1958 by Dale Griffith as part of an English class assignment for Tascosa students to write about their new school. In 50 years, Tascosa has changed. Wood shop has been replaced by computer labs and the student body has evolved into one of the most diverse in Amarillo. Les Hoyt, assistant superintendent for administration for the Amarillo Independent School District, said Tascosa's construction in 1956 cost $2.2 million.
